Passion For Cakes Surprises Sidney BC with a Free “Passion Cake” in Tribute to Muffet & Louisa Kitchen Store

Corina Ludwig launches the Passion Cake Project to honor groups, charities, and non-profit organizations who really “take the cake” and go beyond expectations in service to the community.

Monday August 31, 2009 – Victoria BC >> Corina Ludwig, founder and cake designer at Passion For Cakes, surprised visitors and residents of Sidney BC last week with the donation of a custom “Passion Cake.”

“I wanted to show my thanks to the staff and customers of Muffet & Louisa,” explained Ludwig. “They’ve supplied me and other Victoria-area bakers with the best kitchen gear imaginable. It was also a great way for me to launch the Passion Cake Project: a chance for me to donate free cake to worthy groups.”

The cake—a two tiered, triple layer vanilla and chocolate cake with mocha buttercream icing, covered in chocolate fondant and decorated with gold accents and handmade flowers—was on display at Muffet & Louisa’s Sidney storefront last week. Muffet & Louisa staff, led by owner Muffet Billyard-Leake, cut the cake on Thursday August 20th, and served it to customers and people strolling past during the Thursday Sidney Summer Market.

“We and our customers alike were amazed at the beauty of the cake. No one could believe that the entire cake, including the flowers, had been made by hand and was completely edible. Everyone wanted to look at Corina’s website to see what other marvels she had created” said Muffet Billyard-Leake.

The cake is the first in the Passion Cake Project, a series of six “Passion Cakes” that Ludwig will be donating to worthy causes such as charities and non-profit organizations over the next year.

“I’m launching the Passion Cake Project for two reasons,” explained Ludwig. “I get to bake and donate cakes to worthy organizations who can then raffle off or share the cake with employees, volunteers or guests, and I also get to test out my latest cake decorating skills at the same time!”

Prior to Sunday’s cake donation Ludwig completed a level three Wilton cake decorating course at Creating Occasions with instructor Lora Lonesberry, former Fairmont Hotel Pastry Chef.

Although Muffet & Louisa isn’t a charity, Ludwig feels that by virtue of their great selection of kitchen and baking supplies (specifically spatulas, baking pans and measuring spoons), they have inspired people like herself to nurture a passion for baking.

The next donations under the Passion Cake Project are the Power of Kindness Fundraiser in October and the Starry Night Ball, in November - presented by the Victoria Chamber of Commerce. Passion For Cakes welcomes all donation requests. They will be reviewed based on their value to the community and how passionate the requestors are about their cause.
